The Best Art Subscription Box for Kids
As parents, we are always looking for ways to keep our kids entertained. One great way to do that is through arts and crafts. However, that can seem like a lot of work. I have to find the supplies and buy them. Then I get home and realize that I don’t have those crayons that I was sure were in the drawer in the kitchen by the dishwasher, but they are not there. Now I don’t have what I need for what I was going to do, and there is no way that I am running back to the store. Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was an art subscription box for kids that would do this all for you?
Well, the good news is there is an art subscription box for kids. There are quite a few, but I am going to focus on one that I used recently with one of my friend’s preschoolers that I have absolutely fallen in love with. The box is from Green Kid Crafts, and if you have not heard of them yet, you definitely should check them out.

What is Green Kid Crafts?
Green Kids Crafts first is a company founded by a mother, who is also a scientist. She realized how important it was for her children to express their creativity. A Green Kid Crafts art subscription box for kids is STEAM-oriented.  Green Kid Crafts has so many amazing art projects, but many of the activities also have a science bend to them. If you want to know more about STEAM, I wrote about the importance of STEAM for Middle Schoolers a couple of posts ago.
Also, can I brag on their customer service? I ordered a box from them recently, and I was sent the wrong box. So I emailed them, and within the day I heard back from them. They apologized for sending me the wrong box and got the right one sent out to me fast. They also said I could keep the box they had sent, which was more awesome than I was expecting when viewing it on their site. So their customer service is also amazing, which makes them even more amazing as a company.
I have found that they are one of the best children’s subscription boxes out there. They offer boxes for three sets of ages: 2-4 years old, 5-10 years old, and 10+ years old. However, many of their boxes can work across the board.
Monthly Activities for Kids
Green Kid Crafts will allow you to have monthly activities for kids without you having to get all the supplies yourself. You order the subscription, and every month some awesome activities will show up at your house, and you do not have to do anything else.
Most of the boxes I have found have between three to six activities in them. They contain enough supplies that it should be really easy to share it among two children, but if your children are more prone to fighting than sharing, then Green Kid Crafts also offers a sibling subscription, which gives you another full box for less than 10 dollars more a month.
If you do not want to go the subscription route, you can also just order their boxes individually. It gives you a little more control over the box you are getting. This route is really good for homeschooling families that want a certain idea to go along with the curriculum that their kids are learning. I am using one of their boxes in about a week to teach arctic ecosystems to one of my homeschooling students.
All of these offerings show me that they are the best art subscription box for kids and my experience doing one of their boxes with a 3-year-old just confirmed it.
The Art Lab Discovery Box
So one of the boxes that I got from Green Kid Crafts was their Art Lab Discovery box. This box contained 6 activities. It also had a Green Kid Crafts magazine that had instructions for about six different projects that kids could do. So not only were there the 6 activities with all the supplies but there were also other ideas for more projects you could do.
One of my mom friends was super nice and let me do these projects with her amazing 3-year-old Tori, who is also homeschooled. I was her art teacher for the day. Of course, I had a great deal of fun and so did her daughter, and none of the projects were too hard for her. Overall, they seemed very age-appropriate. They also were not messy. We put some paper down on the table to do them, and the paper got a little messy, but Tori and I did not get messy at all.

Art and Crafts Ideas for Kids Batik
So breaking down all the projects that were in the box. The first two were this type of project called Batik. So if you are like me, you are probably wondering what in the world Batik is. I legitimately had to google it. A batik is an art form of dying fabric that involves putting wax on the material in a pattern then dying the fabric. The dye will not stick to the wax and once you peel or wash it off the design is there.
There were two Batik projects in this box. The first one had little cloth bags. This project used a method called glue Batik where you use glue to make the pattern and once it dries you paint it.
This was the only project we were not able to finish while I was there because the glue had not fully dried yet. This was mostly because when working with kids they tend to squeeze a lot of glue out of the bottle.
The instructions said not to open the bottle all the way to try to prevent this, but I think it doesn’t matter how much the spout is open kids will squeeze a lot of glue. So it didn’t dry in time to paint. Overall, though it was fun and could be something that your kids could store stuff in after they paint it.
The next Batik project had is drawing on wax paper with crayons (not included) I decided to draw flowers, and my art companion, who according to her mom has never drawn flowers before (she is more of a fan of people and friends) decided to copy me. She made some really cute flowers.
After we finished drawing, we crumbled the paper up and then used watercolors to paint it. Tori’s face though, when I told her to crumple up her paper that she just drew, was so cute. She seriously was questioning why in the world we would crumple up the beautiful picture we just made. The reason why we were crumbling though is the paint would not stick on the crayons, but it made a cool design with the crumbling.
I had my doubts that this watercolor paint would do anything on this wax paper, but it ended up leaving really cool designs once it dried.
Arts and Crafts Ideas for Kids String Art
This was by far everyone’s favorite craft. Tori loved seeing how they turned out and we even turned them into butterflies. She also loved using the popsicle sticks to dip the string into the paint and get it really coated.
This craft overall was really cool because of the mirroring that happens, which means you can create things like butterflies out of the results. Plus it just looks really cool, and your kids may be surprised by the patterns that result.
Arts and Crafts Ideas for Kids Salt Painting
The salt painting project was supposed to be scribble art. Meaning that your child would scribble and try to find a picture in the scribbles. Since I was working with a younger student, who I wasn’t sure could actually find pictures in her scribbles, and because the example was so dang stinking cute. I decided to have us copy the example.
Tori’s picture also I think may have been cuter than mine. She was excellent at drawing this cute little octopus. A reminder that she is only three years old and she made this cute little guy. There were also cute little color pencils in the kit for this craft, which were about the cutest thing that I have ever seen. They were perfect for her little hands for drawing. This is probably the cutest project out of all of them.
Arts and Crafts Ideas for Kids Stamps
The last two projects were stamping projects. There were two types of stamps that we made. The first one was roller stamps, and the others were little block stamps. They had foam pieces that we put onto the little wooden dowels or the blocks. They also included two different stamp pads.
Tori really liked putting the foam stickers on the blocks. This seemed to be her favorite parts of this stamping project. We made a card and a bookmark with our stamps and like all the other projects it was so much fun.
Several Days of Arts and Crafts Ideas for Kids
I was there for that one day, so we did all the projects in one day, but it was a lot of projects to do for one day. You could easily split these projects over several days. Then your kids will have fun projects to do over several days, which is one of the reasons that I see Green Kid Crafts as the best art subscription box for kids. It doesn’t just give you fun for one day but for several days.
I look forward to doing another one of their boxes with a student a homeschool this next week and Tori, and her mom have already had some more great fun with the Kitchen Science Green Kid Crafts box. Green kid Crafts offer an amazing art subscription box for kids and so much more. They offer memories with your kids for years to come.Â

I know I have also seen some kids like teens do unboxing videos for Green Kid Crafts on Youtube. Kids love these boxes. They really are amazing and you can do the activities in them for days. It is like entertainment for your kids for so much time that you don’t have to think about.
I love that the kids subscription box for science goes as young as age 2! That is hard to find!
