5 Things To Do to Encourage Thankfulness for Kids this Holiday Season

Thankfulness for Kids

The holiday season is upon us and one great thing to do in the holiday season is to be thankful and to reflect on all the amazing things we do and have. This holiday season I have put together a list of ways to teach thankfulness for kids.

1.Thankfulness Tree

You can start a season of thankfulness by having a thankfulness tree. Encourage your kids and family to write down little things they are thankful for and you can add them to the tree. You can also get a little Christmas tree and do the same thing you can even have your kids add things throughout the season and on Christmas, you can read all of them together as a reminder of everything you are thankful for.

2. Donating Toys

Another way to encourage thankfulness for kids this holiday season is to show them all they have to be thankful for and how others do not have everything they do. One was to teach this and to teach them how to be charitable to others it to have them donate some of their old but still functioning toys. Another perk to this is it helps you declutter before your kids get new toys.

3. Elf on the Shelf Kindness Edition

Elf on the Shelf is famous for his crazy antics but what if you used him to teach kindness this holiday season. For instance, every day the elf gives a suggestion of something kind your kids can do that day. One may be let’s visit our elderly friends, or let’s take cookies to our neighbors. The possibilities are endless and you would get to decide what kind of thing you want to do with your kids that day.

4. Helping with the Meal

One way to be thankful for the people that make the meals that we enjoy this holiday season. Having your kids help with the holiday meal can encourage thankfulness. Have everyone in your family make at least one dish and then after the meal everyone can say which food they are thankful for and how much they appreciate the person who made it. Make sure that all kids have their dish talked about.

5. Thankfulness Daily

Practice giving thanks daily for what you have been given. This is something that you can do around the dinner table every night or when you are tucking your kids into bed. Each person needs to say one thing that they are thankful for it allows people to have better days because it makes them believe those good things are around them even when they have bad days. You can have them write down what they are thankful for also and put it in a jar to save for the days that are not so great.
