Fall Activities for Elementary Students
Fall is practically here, which means one of my favorite drinks, no it’s not a pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin cream cold brew is back on the menu at Starbucks. However, it also means that I am looking at my curriculum and seeing what fall activities for elementary students I have.
I don’t know about you but I love doing activities based on the time of year. I think it really just adds a fun aspect to my lessons with my elementary students and just makes the time seem more put together. I also love making fall activities for my Teachers Pay Teachers store.

Fall Activities for Elementary Students #1 Coloring pages
Who doesn’t love coloring pages? Coloring pages are a perfect transition activity from coming back from lunch to get students’ minds back into learning. They are also great for early finishers or for fun activities at class parties, which makes it one of the best fall activities for elementary students. When it is fall time I pull out two sets of my coloring pages. First the fall mindful coloring pages, and then my Halloween Coloring Pages.
I enjoy coloring these as well to get into the fall mood or to just wind down at the end of the day. I have to admit that my favorite is the fox in the fall coloring pages bundle. I also love the hello fall coloring page. If fall is your favorite time of year you will want to head to my store to pick these up.
If fall is your favorite time of year because of Halloween then you will want to grab my Halloween Coloring Pages Freebie by signing up to be a subscriber below. My church every year does a huge Halloween event and I have friends that love Halloween year around. If you are like them then you will definitely want to grab these coloring pages for your students or yourself.
Plus if you grab both sets you will have fall activities for elementary students for September through November. Crossing something off your lesson plans for three months is also such a relief.
Fall Activities for Elementary Students #2 Digital Activities
Another, one of the great fall activities for elementary school students is digital activities. One of my personal favorites is boom cards. There are plenty of free boom cards for fall on boom including Halloween Spot the Match.
One fall boom card activity that I just put up was Build a Scarecrow Long Division Boom Deck. This is one of many great fall activities for elementary students. My students love it. They have to do 3 long division problems then they get to build a scarecrow as a reward. Overall there are 12 long division problems and 4 chances to build a scarecrow.
One of the things that I love doing with my students on this as well is a cross curriculum fall activity. Basically I have the students write stories or tell me the stories orally about their scarecrows after they make them. It is fun to see them get creative. Maybe they will make a couple scarecrows and make them brothers or sisters or something like that. This way students are doing math and English together making them a great set of fall activities for elementary students.

Fall Activities for Elementary Students #3 Fall Journal Pages
Next, in a great set of fall activities for Elementary Students is Fall Journal Pages. I have found that the best way to get students practicing their writing is to get them writing everyday. The easiest way that I have found to do this is freewriting activities. When I want to do freewriting in the fall I reach for my Fall Journal Pages. These journals will have students writing on many fall topics, from apples, pumpkins, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Plus there are 20 of them. Which means that you have 20 writing lessons planned for you. I love being able to work smarter, not harder on things.
Another thing that I love about these Fall Journal Pages is that I inevitably learn so much about my students through these writing prompts. I learn what they love and that helps me direct them to books they may enjoy or incorporate things that will bring them joy into my lessons. Plus it just gives me a bit of insight into a younger generation.
Fall Activities for Elementary Students #4 Art Activities
Lastly, art activities make great fall activities for elementary students. I talked about the fall coloring pages above, but there are so many more great art activities that students can do in the fall. Some of them are listed below.
Leaf and Apple Prints
One of my favorite art activities for the fall is leaf and apple prints. You can get apples from the store and cut them in half. Then have the students put paint on them and stamp it on paper. You can also have them carve the apple into stamps if you trust them to carve without hurting themselves. Allowing the students to carve stamps out of the apples would be reserved more for older elementary students.
For leaves you can go with your students outside and have them collect different leaves. Then have them paint the leaves and print them into the paper. You can also turn this into a thankfulness tree. They would draw a tree on the page and use the leaves to print leaves on the trees and then once the paint dries they can write what they are thankful for on the leaves on the tree. This could also become a really cute bulletin board in your classroom. So it would double as a fun activity and great class decor for the fall.
Painting Pumpkins
So the big thing to do in fall is to carve pumpkins. However, that is not one of the fall activities for elementary students that would be safe for everyone. Therefore, I suggest a fall activity that is just as fun and possibly even allows more creativity. This activity is painting pumpkins. I also like to make this activity a bit of a competition. Instead of every student getting a pumpkin, split your class into groups, and then have each group make a pumpkin as sort of a competition against the other groups. This would be a perfect activity for a Halloween party. Plus students would have such a fun time with it.
Overall, fall is a great time to bring out a lot of fun activities. I hope that you enjoyed this list of fall activities for elementary students. If you enjoyed this post or benefited from it, please consider sharing it with your friends.
