Fall Lesson Plans #1 Fall Journal Pages

One of my favorite things to do with my students during the fall is to have them create a fall journal. This is a great opportunity for your students to practice their writing skills and reflect on all the wonderful things about autumn. I like to give my students some prompts to get them started, but you can also have them free write if you prefer.

These prompts can also help you learn a lot about your students. Do they prefer pumpkin spice or apple cider? What are they planning to dress up as for Halloween? There are so many things that you can learn about your students through writing and that starts with journal prompts.

Another great way to add some fall fun into your classroom is by using coloring pages. Coloring can be a great stress reliever for both kids and adults. It is also a great way to work on fine motor skills. I like to use coloring pages as a brain break, as a transition activity, or when students finish their work early.

There are so many different coloring pages out there but I have a set in my store that has 15 pages of coloring that you can use for mindful coloring in your classroom. I also have a set that is specifically Halloween-themed that you can grab for free for becoming a part of my email list. To grab this free set click the image below to sign up.

Fall Lesson Plans # 3 Halloween Activities

Halloween is a great time to do some fun-themed activities in your classroom. My favorite activities to do with my students around Halloween are my multiplication drills and build-a-creature games.

Multiplication is so incredibly important for students to be practicing. This is why I have multiplication drills for every season and holiday out of the year and I am definitely not going to leave Halloween out of that mix. These multiplication drills are a great way to review with your students and they can also be used as a math center or in small groups. Plus your kids will have so much fun looking at all the Halloween-themed clip art.

My build-a-creature activities are also amazing. These are also perfect for math centers because they teach your students double-digit multiplication and long division. They have a built-in brain break so after students do a couple of problems they get to build a creature. Depending on what activity they are doing they can build a witch, a Frankenstein, a jack-o-lantern, or a haunted house

Fall Lesson Plans #4 Thanksgiving Activities

Another great holiday to incorporate into your fall lesson plans is Thanksgiving. There are so many wonderful things that you can do with your students to teach them about the history of this holiday and the meaning behind it. I have found that it is great to teach the history of thanksgiving and also have children reflect on how and why they are thankful. For more ideas on how to do this check out this blog post about teaching kids thankfulness.

I also love to break out thanksgiving activities in my math centers sort of how I do at Halloween. I have a set of Thanksgiving multiplication drills that are perfect for second, third, or even 4th grade. It will have your students further practicing their multiplication now just with a different theme so that it doesn’t get old and it is perfect for math centers.
