It’s the day of love. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and I know that Valentine’s Day can be a big deal in elementary school classrooms. Giving out Valentines and Valentine’s Day parties are definitely something that you are probably thinking about as a teacher but there are plenty of other valentines day classroom activities that should be on your radar. Check out some ideas for activities below.

Valentines Day Classroom Activities #1 History of Valentines Day

Doing a history lesson on how Valentine’s day started and what it has come to be is a nice way to help your students understand the meaning behind the holiday. You could talk about St. Valentine who the holiday was named after. He married couples even though it was against the law at the time.

I also enjoy talking about the making of popular valentines day candies like Sweethearts. This is a great video to watch that will help kids learn how these popular candies are made.

Valentines Day Classroom Activities #2 Valentines Writing Activities

Another one of the great Valentine’s Day classroom activities is Valentine’s Day writing activities. These types of activities overall help students develop their writing skills. There are several ways that you can go about these types of activities. You could have students write valentines to fictional people, or create funny characters that are writing valentines to each other like two aliens, or two fish.

I also have two writing activities on boom cards that are the perfect set off Valentine’s Day classroom activities. One of them has students pick their favorite out of a set of valentines characters and write a story about them. There are five days of writing activities included in this one boom deck so you can have students do one a day. The second set also has five writing prompts but this one will have students building different treats like cupcakes, cakes, and ice cream sundaes then they will write stories about the treats that they built.

Another one of the great Valentine’s Day classroom activities is coloring pages. These can be used over the whole month as mindful coloring. They also can be used for early finishers as early finisher activities. They could even be used on a choice board of early finisher activities.

Likewise Valentine’s Day coloring pages can be used at Valentine’s Day parties. This is an activity that students could do during the party or you can print them and they can take them home as almost favors to use there.

Valentines Day Classroom Activities #4 Build-a-Treat Activities

Another one of the great  Valentine’s Day classroom activities is my line of build a treat long division and double digit multiplication activities. Are you working on Double-digit multiplication and long division skills with your students? This bundle will have your students mastering their double-digit multiplication and long division skills. There are three decks that work with double-digit multiplication and two decks that work with long division.

These are perfect for math centers, math review, or even for when you are teaching double-digit multiplication or long division to your students. The best things about these decks are that after your students do three double-digit multiplication or long division problems they will be able to build a treat either a cake, cupcake, ice cream sundae, bakery, or donut depending on what deck they are working on at the time. Students are able to be rewarded and have fun while practicing their math and learning.

As a teacher, you will have plenty of items to use as a review so you know that your students have mastered these very important upper elementary math skills of double-digit multiplication and long division. If students know how to do double-digit multiplication and long division they will be better prepared for higher math. Plus since they are treat themed they are perfect as Valentine’s Day activities
